The Big Room
Welcome to the Big Room family! We are thrilled to have your child with us at our school. The Big Room is an exciting place for students to learn, grow, and develop essential life skills for a successful future.
In our classrooms, we explore various learning styles and strategies to cater to each student’s unique needs. This approach provides students with the opportunity to acquire skills that will not only help them academically but also in areas such as time management, study habits, self-discipline, and other vital life skills crucial for their future success.
Our Room
We are always looking for interesting learning experiences.
Mrs. Bekkering
I LOVE Ebenezer! As a dedicated educator with nearly 30 years of experience, the past decade at Ebenezer in the Big Room has been especially rewarding. In our classroom, I strive to provide a nurturing environment where students can develop independent thinking, problem-solving skills, creativity, and collaborative abilities with their peers.
My ultimate goal is to equip each student with a wide range of skills, ensuring they feel prepared for the next stages of their educational journey. I embrace mistakes as valuable learning opportunities, and every lesson is carefully crafted from a Christian perspective.
I deeply value each student as a unique individual, and I am committed to supporting their growth and success throughout the school year.
Things we are learning:
We have daily Bible time, where we explore God’s word and Biblical truths. A large portion of our morning is spent in grade-level math lessons. Our rigorous math program prepares kids for their next academic steps. We spend a lot of time learning how to take information, process it, and use it to make other connections in our world. Students learn to become thinkers and leaders. We cover grade-level material in other core subjects such as reading, writing, math, and science. This is rotated through a three-year cycle so that each year, the material is new and covers all grade-appropriate curricula. We explore many options for studying and do all our written work in MLA formatting to prepare for higher-level learning and responsibilities. Our class enjoys chapel twice a month, supported by local churches. We also have art, music, and gym classes each week.
Thoughts from our students:
I like Ebenezer because I have a deeper connection to my teachers. E.R.
I love that we get to go outside for recess for 45 minutes each day. L.S.
I really like that I am able to hang out with my friends, even though they are not in the same grade. H. M.
I like Ebenezer because there aren’t as many kids as in other schools, so we get time from our teachers that is focused on our individual needs. A.S.
Because we are in the Big Room, we can earn special privileges such as working outside the classroom in other parts of the school, going outside for an extra break, or silent reading outside when the weather is nice. J.J
One of the best things about Ebenezer is the smaller class sizes, which makes me feel less anxious. G.R.
We get to go outside and build forts in the woods. D. S
