Volunteer Opportunities

Many hands make light work, a cliche but all too true saying when it comes to non-profit organizations and schools alike. At Ebenezer Christian School, there are always opportunities to put your skills, passions, and maybe just your free time to support our mission of providing children an excellent, Christ-centered education. See below for volunteer opportunities and fill out our form, or contact our office at (231) 588-2111 to find areas where you can help out.

Recess Duty

Our teachers work tirelessly to train our children up in the way they should go (Proverbs 22:6), and recess provides them the much needed quiet time to prepare for their afternoon lessons. Recess volunteers are needed to help make sure our children can get their exercise, “get their wiggles out”, while giving the teachers some time to prepare. Recess duties entail:

  • Being at the school before recess starts
  • Ensuring the playground rules are followed
  • Have fun with the children

Ways and Means

Our Ways and Means team was established to provide additional funding to the school through events and fundraisers, with the primary purpose of providing additional opportunities to our children, such as field trips. Growing from that original scope, Ways and Means is currently the financial engine of our school, providing funding to the operational budget and allowing tuition to stay lower than nearby Christian schools. With this larger scope in responsibilities comes a need for volunteers, and there are many ways that you can be involved:

Soup Suppers

Come and enjoy an array of soups, bread, salad, and desserts, and fellowship with the broad ECS community.

  • Pre-Event Coordination
  • Provide a Soup, Salad, Bread or Desserts
  • Serve the Soup
  • Set-up/Tear-down
Fall / Spring Garage Sale

The Fall and Spring Garage Sale (located in the ECS Gym) are opportunities for you to offload those still-wonderful items that you just don’t have room or use for anymore. With a community of people donating and buying, the Garage Sale takes many hands to sort, organize, sell, and clean-up.

  • Pre-Event Coordination
  • Donate Items
  • Set-up and Organize
  • Sell
  • Clean-up
  • Lead
Hostess Supper

The de facto Ebenezer Christian School event. The hostess supper happens every April and is a time for food, family, friends and fellowship. Our fantastic hostesses (and hosts?) provide unique experiences at each of their tables for guests, from table settings, to sides and desserts.

  • Host a Table!
  • Set-up/Tear-down
  • Pre-event coordination
Back-to-School BBQ

Join us in August for some back-to-school fun and barbeque. Smoked meats provided by the school board and pot-luck style sides. Free-will donation for the meal, so take that restaurant money and support your local Christian School. If you would like to help out, we have plenty of opportunities here:

  • Sides and Desserts
  • Set-up, tear-down
  • Pre-event coordination
Harvest Auction

Taking place in early November, the Harvest Auction is one of our most fun events, with friendly rivalries developing over a $200 loaf of cinnamon-swirl bread. Come look for a deal or rack up the bid prices to help benefit the school. Setting up the Harvest Auction involves a lot of prep-work and helping hands:

  • Partner with local businesses to receive donations
  • Organize and catalog auction items
  • Pre-event coordination
  • Set-up/tear-down for the event
  • Provide snacks

ECS Ambassador

“Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.” Matthew 5:15 (KJV). We love Ebenezer Christian School and want the world to know what a Christ-Centered education in a parent-led school can do for children. If you are passionate about Christian education and want to shout it from the rooftops, you’re exactly who we need. There are lots of ways that we can get the word out:

  • Give a 5-10 minute presentation at a local church
  • Partner with local businesses to display flyers
  • Set up booths at festivals
  • Build floats and march in community parades
  • Make every day connections with friends/family/neighbors about the benefits of a Christian education

Board of Education

It takes a lot of effort to make a school run. While it may seem daunting to take on the role of School Board member, most parents choose a private school because they want more control of their child’s education. The school board meets monthly to plan and executive the strategic vision of the school. All school board meetings are open to the public, so feel free to sit in and see some of the behind the scenes that make the school work. Want to help execute the plan, but not ready to be a school board member? Join one of our sub-committees to help move the school forward:

  • Operations
  • Ways and Means
  • Marketing/Promotions
  • Curriculum
  • Finance
  • Building
